What led us to create the TETRECOM tool? Principal founder Renata Mlčáková has many years of teaching and consulting experience in speech language therapy in schools. In research and practice, it is devoted to the key functions for the successful mastering of initial reading, writing, and arithmetic in children with communication disorders and in children at risk of developing a specific learning disorder in the period of early literacy. Co-founder Jaromír Maštalíř focuses on the area of alternative and augmentative communication and the use of eye tracking technology for clients with severe disabilities. During consultations (in December, 2018), R. Mlčáková got the idea to use eye tracking technology to diagnose the ability to read isolated letters and numbers, to find out the directionality, reading strategies of school beginners and to find out where the child is looking when he is quiet and thinking how name the letter.
We started developing TETRECOM because we could not find an aid that would objectively and accurately determine, using modern technology, how a child in the 1st grade or at the beginning of the 2nd grade can read letters and numbers. If we detect the child's reserves in the knowledge of letters and numbers in time, which TETRECOM enables us to do, we can choose a targeted intervention before the deficiencies are fixed, and we can thus prevent the emergence of more serious difficulties in reading, writing and mathematics.
